Good Times on the Bass Drum

Good Times on the Bass Drum

This month I have been inspired by Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times." John Bonham's right foot on this song always blows me away every time. He plays a 1/16 note triplet lick as in example A.

John Bonham had such a smooth touch and great power in his foot. You hear every note he plays clean and clear. Practice example A to get used to the feel. Make sure you space the strokes evenly in the triplets. Try to count each as well. Then try the drum grooves that apply this lick in various ways. In the end of the song Bonham plays a two-measure beauty using this lick!
