Some Flam Stuff
Technique by Ryan Carver // June 02 2008
Here is a four-measure flam roll exercise. In the first bar you play flam accents. In the second bar you play flam drags. In the third bar you play flam five-stroke rolls, and in the fourth bar you play some flam five-stroke rolls on the upbeat. It can be tricky to keep the flam sound when starting the rolls so listen carefully. Start slow, ensuring the sound quality is good, then start to increase the tempo. When you are comfortable try to phrase the exercise around the drum set.
