Pearl Drums Welcomes Gabor Dornyei To The Pearl Artist Family

Thanks to a globe-spanning endorsement that will see him joining the likes of Omar Hakim, Mike Mangini and Dennis Chambers on Pearl’s roster of international players, Gabor Dornyei is now playing Pearl Masters Premium Legend drums.

A faculty member at the Institute of Contemporary Music in the UK and ‘Visiting Professor’ to the Swiss Drum Academy, London-based Dornyei also provides tutorial material for the Detroit Institute of Music (DIME-USA&UK), has been featured on two DrumChannel.com programs, and stars in the DVDs Thunder Duo Live With Dom Famularo (Hudson Music) and Rhythm Frontier with percussionist Pete Lockett. Since completing the three years long Thriller Live World Tour and his recent feature in Modern Drummer Magazine he is also permanently busy performing international masterclasses and – either solo or with Thunder Duo – clinics at the likes of the University of Southern California and sold out dates across Europe and the UK. When in London he keeps busy with sessions and gigging with latin-jazz-fusion band J-Sonics.

“Because everybody is saying such great things about him,” said Frank Jacobs, Pearl Artist Relations & Promotion Manager, Thomas Franke (Product & Marketing Manager) “and I heard about Gabor long before we saw him in action. He plays and communicates so well that he is a big inspiration for others, and is also a prime example of someone who has created his own career. And though he is a great drummer in the technical sense, Gabor also knows how to strike a drumhead so it ‘sings’, which means that if anyone can make his Masters Premium kit sound great, it is him.”

Added Dornyei: “I like people who have vision. And these guys, Frank and Thomas, appreciate the value of players who, like me, are actively promoting drumming through clinics and events. Of course my new Pearl kit is quite fantastic, and I say this after having played some wonderful drums in the past. Their attack is punchy and the shells very resonant, while the ‘Golden Ratio’ vents in the shells improve low-end response, which is a fantastic concept. However, Pearl cares not only about drums, but also about people. The fact that Deep Purple’s Ian Paice has played Pearl for decades and the Pearl brand is the global market leader confirms my feeling that I’m now playing the best.”
