Flam Exercises
Technique by Ryan Carver // July 02 2007
Here are some killer flam exercises. These are great for building up the hands and can be applied to the drum set various ways. Start slow, making sure the flams are nice and clean, and that you are relaxed. Gradually increase your speed. When you have one of them down start to play the exercise as a fill or in a groove.
1. In this first example you play four flam accents and two flam taps all phrased as 1/16 notes.
2. This is a two measure example using flam taps and swiss army triplets all phrased as sixteenth notes.
3. This last one is straight eighth not triplets with some right handed flams thrown in. It’s a workout for the left hand.
