Hi-Hat Accent Displacement: Part II
Technique by Ryan Carver // February 02 2008
When you are comfortable playing all the accents of part one, you can combine them to make phrases in your grooves. Try to use the accents to emphasize a rhythm or melody. Use a metronome and make sure you always feal the downbeat. Try these one-measure grooves to get comfortable moving the accents.
By phrasing the accents over two bars, you can really start to create feels and rhythms inside of your grooves.
Add the accents to some grooves you know, and you can get some really funky stuff going on.
